Why should rainforests be protected?

Rainforest should be proteced because we value them and they are our life source, we live on them, they suplie us with oxygen/air, paper, building materials to make us shelter, shops and public toilets, food, chemicals, purfume, cutlery(chop sticks), and much more that we need to survive. We should protect rainforest because then we wouldn't have all this stuff listed above. We also should protect them because then we would loss homes for animals and then they would die and many speices would become extinct and there would be no more rainforest/forest to explore and look at the beautiful nature inside them.

Why are they valued?

Rainforest are valued because they are our source of oxygen and with-out  them we would not survive. They help us live our life everyday and if we are going and destroying them we won't be able to breathe and then we would die. We also value our rainforest because it makes our country look beautiful and if we destroy them we will destroy many rare, indangered or beautiful animals that only live in forest or rainforest and we would be destroying their home and then they would not have a home and they would die and then the furture generaition would never be able to experience these wonderful animals that we have today and obviously there would be less amounts of animals and their beautiful noises and sounds they make e.g birds singing in the morning.

Why are Rainforests important?

Rainforest are important cause they are are life. Trees give us life because they produce oxygen and with-out oxygen we would not be alive today, We have to save the trees we have left and we need to replant many trees. Trees are being cut down to produce ingredients to make food, such as  fruit, nuts, spices, coffee, sugar and chocolate. Cattle are also used ater rainforest have been cut down for farms also to plant and harvest crops, which the soil is poor so it can only be used once. trees are also cut down to make chemicals, gum, medicines, perfumes, soap, shampoo, polishes, cosmetics, rope to make basket and other objects or materials. There obviously is a  lot of stuff that we need from the rainforest so it is important if we have to cut down trees after cutting down the trees replant so by the time loggers have logged down some of te rainforest the replant trees will be fully grown to start the process agian so there will be a consitent about of trees not running out so our earth will be a safer healthyer environmentaly friendy place were we care for our rainforest and forest(trees in general).

Trees are important cause they help us live and they produce lots and lots of things for us to live today so we need to give back by not chopping them all down. With-out trees we would not survive.

Where are Rainforest Found in the World?

Rainforest are found in many parts of the world, because of logging there is less rainforests left in our world today.
Logging is so bad that every second the size of two football fields are destroyed to make furniture, paper, packaging, wood, sculptures and also disposable chopsticks.
Logging is terribly destrutive and 70% of Australia's rainforest have been cut down and by the rate we're going all rainforest will be cleared by 2012.

As a result by this poor behavour 78,00 square miles of rainforest disappear every year, which is the size Nebraska.

Brazil holds one third of the world's rainforest.
Sometimes people log to clear land for farms and mining bt as the soul it not perfect for the farmes it is a waist because the farmers only use this land for acouple of years.
Therer is so much logging that in every country in the world that has a rainforest or rainforests are in danger because of the amont of logging we are committing.
So many people log as you can see the result i have told you but it is even worst  that there are websites for jobs for people to log.

Loggers don't think before they log because some loggers cut down trees in NSW rainforest because a special type of tree that grows in NSW makes very good paper but if we keep cutting down paper soon there will be no trees to cut down to make paper, so if we really have to log is it's really needed cut down some trees and plants so in the origanal spot then continue so ther ei s a continuus amount of trees growing so logging won't be so bad.

What are the Plants in the Rainforest?

The four main plants in the rainforest are:
  • Bromeliads
  • Orchids
  • Buttress Roots
  • Strangler Fig
Here are some pictures of them-
Bromeliads are part of the pineapple family. With their thick leves they catch water in the centre of all the leaves to grow.
Orchids a very colourful flowers with a range of 20,00 differennt types of flowers with beautiful amazing colours.
Buttress Roots are big roots that stick out of the ground to support the trees because the soil under the ground is very poor and only on the top of the ground is the soil good for roots to grow on.
Strangler Fig is in the fig family and is known as the killer tree, as it rapes around other trees and strangles them.

Sloth

Here are some pictures of a two toed sloth.
there is a picture of a baby sloth, and mother baby sloth and two pictures of adult sloths.

A sloth lives in the understory layer and is built to hang upside down for it's whole life.
A sloth has thick brown fur and moves so slowly that some insects live and breed in its fur.Sometimes a sloth looks green and can be green(fur) but mostly brown.
Sloths eat a wide varity of leaves from trees.
It spends it's time eating, sleeping and moving accross branches with the toilet time once a week.
The toilet time is when the sloth moves down the trees to the floor and making a hole with it's tail to do his business in then coveres it up and slowly moves it's way up to the tops of the trees, his home. This process uses most of the sloths energy.
Sloths are most of the time protected when they go for their 18 hours sleeps because of its high habitat it is mostly safe apart from it's most dreaded predator the Harpy Eagle. It is able to crab and take the Sloth away.

Which Layer of the Rainforest do they Live in?

They all live in differnet layers of the rainforest.
For example the birds, Monkeys and Spiders would live in the canopy layer and come down to the forest floor to eat.
The Snakes Lizards, Lepoards, Lions, Tigers, and most of the four leggered animals would live on ground so on the forest floor and some insects would barrow into trees in the understory layer.
